What is Whatboots?'Whatboots?' is a consultancy service which was established to investigate how students' experiential learning can influence their academic outcomes. Specifically, how effectively can students 'transfer' and adapt the Habits of Mind they have used successfully in sporting contexts, to overcome difficult situations in classrooms? In short, can sporting success lead to academic success? Matt Atkinson, MEd, BTeach, BA, created Whatboots? after developing a poster in 2011 which outlined the Habits of Mind necessary for success in sport. Aptly titled 'What boots do you wear?', it questioned the mental approach to sporting success. He has pursued this line of investigation into student attitudes towards the potential of their experiential learning in sport to aid their academic endeavours. He has presented nationally and internationally on the integration of Habits of Mind into school curriculum. Matt has also spoken internationally on 'What boots do you wear?', which is an investigation of whether students can achieve greater academic success by adapting Habits of Mind which they have used successfully in their previous experiences, but most commonly in sporting contexts. He believes this could be the key to more students becoming independent and lifelong learners. Mission: To improve students' academic outcomes through their experiential learning, and to develop their ability to transfer and adapt the successful application of Habits of Mind from one context to another to achieve success. Vision: Success through experience |
